The structure
This 6-week Yoga Therapy beginners’ course for the Mind is an introductory into how we apply yoga therapy to help cope with stress. This course is suitable for those who want to start either a yoga practice or discover more about how yoga can impact on one’s mental and emotional health. Throughout the 6-week course you will gain an understanding about:
How stress impacts the nervous system and how this may change our behaviour in everyday life.
Gain awareness on how to support the nervous system throughout times of stress.
How to use a range of self-regulation tools by applying ancient yoga practices.
Develop an understanding of what Mediation and Mindfulness is and how to practice and apply this to everyday life.
Learn a variety of breathing techniques depending on what is occurring in the nervous system.
An introductory to the Polyvagal Theory and how this links with yoga philosophy.
Using yoga postures to bring strength offering a sense of fortitude and confidence.
How the philosophy in yoga can help with self-love, compassion and lifestyle changes.
Understand what yoga practices can upregulate and downregulate particular parts of the brain.
The course will involve a homework practice which will be delivered via a workbook which you will receive during the beginning of the course. Within the workbook there will be weekly reflections and further detailed explanations of the practices. Moreover, short practices will be given throughout the day via a whatsapp group to help create awareness of your own nervous system, along with a weekly meditation/breath awareness or relaxation practices.
After completion of the course options are available to attend the Yoga Therapy 8-week course for anxiety and depression.
